For approximately 25 years prior to fiscal 1991, the Company was principally involved in the energy industry, and it continues to expand its substantial energy operations, primarily the management of partnerships and joint ventures engaged in the production of natural gas located in the Appalachian Basin. Since 1991, the Company's business strategy has focused on locating and developing niche financial businesses in which the Company can realize attractive returns. RAI has accomplished this by targeting well-defined financial services markets and by developing specialized skills to service those markets on a cost-effective basis.
